Sales rise 4.6% on light trucks; SAAR hits 16.2M

U.S. light-vehicle sales rose 4.6 percent to 1.455 million in April, with the Detroit 3, Toyota, Subaru, Nissan and Hyundai all posting gains. The industry, propelled by light trucks, stretched its streak of gains to 14 months.

Record crossover sales propel GM to 5.9% gain

General Motors' April sales rose 5.9 percent, as booming crossover demand offset continued weakness in GM's car lines. GM's retail sales rose 5.3 percent while deliveries to fleet customers climbed 7.6 percent, for a total of 269,056 units.
